Natural Beauty: Seychelles is renowned for its stunning beaches with powdery white sand and clear turquoise waters. The diverse marine

life and coral reefs make it a popular destination for snorkeling and diving.

Best beaches:

1.    Anse Source d'Argent, La Digue: This is perhaps the most famous beach in Seychelles, known for its unique rock formations, powdery white sand, and shallow turquoise waters. It's a favorite spot for photography and relaxation.

2.    Anse Lazio, Praslin: Often regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Anse Lazio offers stunning views, calm waters, and excellent snorkeling

opportunities. The lush surroundings add to its charm.

3.    Anse Intendance, Mahe: This long stretch of beach is known for its wild and

untouched beauty. It's popular among surfers due to its larger waves, and it's a great spot for those looking to enjoy a peaceful beach day.

4.    Anse Georgette, Praslin: Accessible via the Constance Lemuria Resort, this beach is surrounded by lush greenery and granite rocks. It's a quiet and secluded spot perfect for relaxation.

5.    Beau Vallon, Mahe: One of the more popular beaches on Mahe, Beau Vallon offers a range of water activities, a vibrant atmosphere, and a variety of restaurants and bars along the shoreline.

6.    Anse Cocos, La Digue: This beach is accessible via a scenic hike and rewards you with clear waters, serene surroundings, and a sense of seclusion.

Health Precautions: Before traveling to Seychelles, it's recommended to check if any vaccinations or health precautions are required. The islands are free from many diseases found in other parts of the world.

Time Zone: Seychelles Standard Time (SCT) is 4 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+4).

Transportation: Inter-island transportation is primarily by ferry or domestic flights. The local bus system on Mahe and Praslin offers affordable transportation for getting around.

My 5-day example itinerary for your trip to the Seychelles

My trip was from Milan to Seychelles (through Dubai) from 3rd to 9th May, perfect weather and out of season, perfect for exploring - beware that the days are shorter.

 
1.DAY - Exploring MAHE Island

We took the last evening flight from Dubai and arrived in Mahé Island early in the morning.

Mahé Island is the largest island in the Seychelles archipelago, located in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Africa. It covers an area of approximately 157.3 square kilometers (60.7 square miles). Mahé is not only the largest island in the Seychelles but also the most populous, with the country's capital, Victoria, situated on its northeastern coast. Mahé is known for its stunning beaches, lush vegetation, and granite mountains (have a look out from the window during landing - it's already stunning), making it a popular tourist destination in the Seychelles.

After landing, we rented a car at the airport, which was very quick even though we did not book it in advance. Mahé Island is very busy at certain times of day, with traffic jams being a common occurrence.

Our accommodation was booked through https://www.booking.com (Royale Suite - Luxury Apts.) in the Anse Royal area for 3 nights.

The location of the accommodation was quite good, with a small bar on the side that was perfect for breakfast. We had some rest and then started exploring.

We spent the day driving around, exploring the beaches in the south and eating seafood and drinking cocktails.

My favorite beaches were:

· Anse Intendance (very relaxing for the day)

· Anse Takamaka (stunning for the sunset)

Anse Royale has a few grocery stores and some local bars.

There are not many restaurants on the islands, so the choices are limited. Be aware of the opening hours, as they are not always open.

It seems like most people self-cater from local markets and grocery stores. Otherwise, tourists book resorts and hotels.

I mostly enjoy driving around to explore places, being independent gives you the opportunity to interact with the local people and stop wherever you wish.

 2. DAY - Exploring MAHE Island

We continued exploring the island from the south beaches to the north along the west coast, reaching Beau Vallon.

The north part of Mahé Island is the most touristy part, with many bars, restaurants, tourist attractions, diving centers, and souvenir shops.

The most popular activities are snorkeling, diving, and other water sports. Beau Vallon also offers services for families with young children.

The local island life is not easy. Most people work in tourism, and you will see many people walking from the south to the north on foot. The local transportation is by bus, which can take some time to get from one place to another.

The locals mostly speak French and are very friendly and have a relaxed attitude.

Mahé is an ideal place to relax and stay for a long period, even with the family. However, prices are not budget-friendly, as most products are imported and therefore have a certain price. The exception is local fruits, vegetables, and souvenirs.

The food is mostly made up of fish, seafood, and creole dishes (rice, curry, and vegetables) as well as delicious tropical fruits. Don't forget to drink coconuts!

For sunset, we went back to Anse Takamaka. This place stole my heart with its beach, sunset, and atmosphere. You will find a beach bar with good music and local cocktails. The local rum produced in Seychelles is called Takamaka. For those who like good cocktails, I suggest trying the tropical flavors of Takamaka rum.

Those who are curious can also visit the Trois Frères Distillery and take a tour with rum tasting.
 
GOOD TO KNOW:

· Be aware of thieves. Don't bring personal belongins to the beach, especially if you can leave it unattended, store your personal belongings in a safe place in the Hotel.

· Although it may be surprising, crime has been on the rise in the Seychelles in the last decade. Thieves usually do not harm people, but it is still enough to have an unpleasent expierence.

3.DAY - Victoria and Praslin

We got up early, had breakfast, checked out, took the car, and went to visit Victoria, the capital.

One interesting fact about Victoria is that it is one of the smallest capital cities in the world in terms of both land area and population. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, Victoria covers only about 20.1 square kilometers (7.8 square miles) and had a population of around 27,000 people.

Despite its small size, Victoria is the economic, political, and cultural center of the Seychelles archipelago. It offers a vibrant mix of cultures, including French, Creole, and British influences due to the country's colonial history.

The city is known for its colorful markets, such as the Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market, where you can find a variety of fresh produce, spices, and local handicrafts. Additionally, Victoria is home to several historic landmarks and botanical gardens, making it a fascinating destination for travelers interested in the natural beauty and rich culture of the Seychelles.

We went to the market, which was a mixture of colors, lots of spices, fish and all sorts of food. But we mostly enjoyed the handcrafted souvenirs. There was a large selection of items and products made locally with coconut, shells, pearls, and high-quality towels. Those who like art will find many unique pieces here. It was beautiful.

We had coffee and then, with a handful of souvenirs, we went to the harbor, left the car, and took a ferry boat to Praslin with Cat Cocos - www.catcocos.com

I suggest booking your ticket a few days in advance, or at least checking the ticket availability, especially during high season. There are many ferry boats and speedboats offering their services every hour, the only thing that changes are the fares. Be aware that you need to check-in once you arrive at the harbor, so take enough time for the whole procedure, especially if you have a lot of lugagge. The trip took about an hour.

When we arrived in Praslin, our rental car was already waiting for us in the harbor. Car rentals are very efficient and well-organized, especially for those who don't have a lot of time.

We took the car and went to our villa for the next two nights. (Villa Face Mer - booking.com). The neighbors have a family of giant turtles in their garden, which was so beautiful.

Praslin:

Praslin is the second-largest island in the Seychelles and is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and unique attractions. Here are some of the most interesting things about Praslin:

1.    Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve: This UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the most famous attractions on Praslin. It's home to the unique coco de mer palm, which produces the world's largest seed. The lush tropical forest within the reserve is also teeming with rare wildlife, including the black parrot, making it a must-visit for nature enthusiasts.

2.    Anse Lazio: Frequently listed as one of the world's most beautiful beaches, Anse Lazio's pristine white sands and crystal-clear waters are perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The beach is backed by lush greenery and granite boulders, creating a stunning natural backdrop.

3.    Aldabra Atoll: While not on Praslin itself, it's worth mentioning the Aldabra Atoll, another UNESCO World Heritage site. It's the world's second-largest coral atoll and home to an incredible array of wildlife, including giant tortoises, seabirds, and diverse marine life. Day trips to Aldabra can be arranged from Praslin.

4.    Curieuse Island: Located near Praslin, Curieuse Island is famous for its population of giant tortoises. It's also home to a rehabilitated Coco de Mer palm forest, beautiful beaches, and hiking trails.

5.    Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve: This reserve offers fantastic hiking opportunities, with well-marked trails that take you through lush forests and provide panoramic views of Praslin and the surrounding islands. It's an excellent way to explore the island's natural beauty.

6.    Snorkeling and Diving: Praslin offers fantastic opportunities for underwater exploration. The waters around the island are teeming with colorful marine life and coral reefs, making it a great place for snorkeling and diving.

7.    Local Cuisine: Praslin is known for its delicious Creole cuisine. Be sure to try local dishes like fish curry, octopus salad, and fruit bat curry at the island's restaurants and cafes.

8.    Praslin National Park: This park encompasses a significant portion of the island and includes various hiking trails that lead to viewpoints and secluded beaches. It's an excellent way to discover the island's flora and fauna.

9.    Island Hopping: Praslin serves as an excellent base for exploring other nearby islands, including La Digue and Aride Island. Each has its own unique charm and attractions.

10. Turtle Watching: Praslin is a vital nesting site for hawksbill and green turtles. You can participate in guided turtle-watching tours during nesting season to witness these magnificent creatures.

Praslin offers a diverse range of natural wonders and activities, making it a captivating destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure in the Seychelles.

We left our luggage, had a quick rest, and went to explore the beaches of Praslin, especially Anse Georgette and Anse Lazio, which are our favorites. They are stunning and beautiful, and I don't think they can be described with words or even pictures. If paradise on earth exists, the beaches of the Seychelles are surely it.

After a relaxing afternoon exploring the beaches, we took a shower and went to dinner at the Pirogue Lodge (https://www.piroguelodge.com/). We learned that there are not many restaurants on the island, but the ones that do exist are very typical and elegant, perfect for a holiday dinner. Otherwise, there are some grocery stores that are open late. We enjoyed the day to its fullest! For those who have more days, just explore whatever you could like - everything is just beautiful.                               
 GOOD TO KNOW:

· Be aware of thieves. When you leave your villa, close everything very well and put your important personal belongings in a safe place.

4. DAY - LA DIGUE

We had a quick breakfast at the villa and went directly to take the boot to the La DIGUE. Welcome in Paradise!

La Digue is the third-largest inhabited island in the Seychelles archipelago and is known for its stunning natural beauty, pristine beaches, and unique charm. Here are some of the most important things to know about La Digue:

1.    Size and Location: La Digue is relatively small, covering an area of about 10.08 square kilometers (3.89 square miles). It is situated in the Indian Ocean, northeast of the main island of Mahé.

2.    Population: La Digue had a population of approximately 2,800 people. The island maintains a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere.

3.    Transportation: One of the most iconic features of La Digue is its lack of motorized vehicles. The primary modes of transportation on the island are bicycles and ox-carts. This creates a peaceful and eco-friendly environment for both residents and visitors.

4.    Beaches: La Digue is renowned for its breathtaking beaches, with Anse Source d'Argent being one of the most famous. This beach is known for its striking granite rock formations and crystal-clear waters. Anse Coco and Grand Anse are other notable beaches on the island.

5.    L'Union Estate: This historic plantation is a popular attraction on La Digue. Visitors can explore the estate, which includes a vanilla plantation, a copra mill, and giant tortoises.

6.    Veuve Nature Reserve: La Digue is home to the rare Seychelles paradise flycatcher, locally known as "veuve." The Veuve Nature Reserve was established to protect this endangered bird species, and it offers nature trails for birdwatching and hiking.

7.    Accommodation: La Digue offers a range of accommodation options, from guesthouses and small hotels to luxury resorts. Advance booking is recommended, especially during the peak tourist season.

8.    Activities: Besides lounging on the beautiful beaches, visitors can enjoy activities like snorkeling, diving, hiking, and exploring the island's

 Arrived at La Digue, we walked to Anse d'Argent beach. Trough the path you will find a gate where you have to pay an entree fee. The path is not too long, but many people prefer to go by bicycle. However, there is nowhere to leave the bicycles once you arrive at the beach, so it can be an obstacle if you want to explore. We preferred to have a good walk, but its all worth it. It is the perfect idyllic place.
So much beauty and nature in one spot. The path to the beach takes you through vanilla fields, coconut trees, a giant tortoise park, and granite rocks. It seems like we landed in paradise. Even the eyes cannot handle so much beauty.

We spent the day enjoying the beach, snorkeling with tropical fish, sunbathing, and having some good cocktails at the beach bar.

Be sure to bring sunscreen, snacks, and a snorkeling mask.

It was the perfect day. When I think back, I can't help but smile with the promise that I will definitely come back.

In the late afternoon, we took the ferry boat back to Praslin. We took a quick shower and went for dinner before packing for our departure the next morning.

5.DAY - Departure back home

 Morning check-out, we headed back to the harbor. We left the car and took the ferry boat back to Mahé Island.

Arrived there, we went straight to the airport and took the first flight back to Europe via Zurich with Edelweiss. Of course, we couldn't come back without some Takamaka rum and gifts we had to say goodbye to the Seychelle Islands with the promise to see you again in the future.

Arrived in Zurich, we slept in our apartment and the next morning we took the flight back home to Milan.
